Project at a Glance
When Rapid Plas built their new facility in Tamworth, they wanted it running on solar. Smart Commercial Solar brought us in to install the system, and at 877kW it's the biggest project we've completed to date.
Getting that much equipment onto a large industrial roof took some planning. With help from GBP Cranes and Heavy Haulage, we scheduled multiple early morning crane lifts to get the panels and gear up safely. Our team then installed the array across the roof and set up the inverters and switchgear in a dedicated plant room. At the owners' request, we also laid out part of the array to spell the Rapid Plas name in panels.
The facility is now powered by the sun, taking a big bite out of the running costs of a busy manufacturing site - and the name on the roof makes it one of the more recognisable solar installs in the region.
The Challenge
Rapid Plas was building a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Tamworth and wanted it powered by the sun from day one. At 877kW, the rooftop system was the largest we'd taken on, which meant a lot of panels and heavy equipment to get onto a big industrial roof safely and efficiently. The owners also had one special request - they wanted their company name written in solar panels, big enough to see from the air.
The Outcome
We installed the full 877kW system across the facility's roof, with the inverters and switchgear neatly set up in a dedicated plant area. Early morning crane lifts got the equipment onto the roof without disrupting work on site, and the Rapid Plas name now sits in panels right across the roof - you can't miss it.
